Yoga Classes with physical therapist and yoga therapist Cheryl Van Demark, E-RYT500
Yoga may be practiced by everyone, regardless of your level
of perceived physical ability.
Benefits of a dedicated Yoga practice :
At a physical level, Yoga makes your body stronger and more flexible, gives you better balance and bone density, increases breath capacity, digestive function and blood flow to all of your body systems so you have more energy.
At the level of the psyche and emotions, Yoga is absolutely your best choice for relieving stress! Yoga improves your concentration and focus, relieves your muscle tension, liberates you from anxiety, elevates your mood, promotes your compassion for self and others……and ultimately, puts you on a path to enlightenment! So….what are you waiting for?
Tension Tamer- Stress Remedy: A gentle physical practice with an emphasis on promoting body awareness. This class will assist you in discovering which areas of your body feel tense and how and you are using your muscles to literally “wear” your life stress. Discover how your muscle tension patterns restrict free flow of your breath, your movement and your energy. Learn how to tame these tensions using your breath, gentle somatic movements, supported passive positions and self application of deep pressure to points on the body using various props. Each class ends with a soothing guided relaxation.
Mixed Level Yoga: Explore the foundational principles of the eight limbs of the Tree of Yoga: internal and external discipline, postures, breath work, sensory focus, concentration, awareness, meditation. Instruction in the practice will be presented in a format that allows the student to experience a progression of the yoga pose/asana preparation along a continuum of challenge. Students are encouraged to attend an Introduction to Yoga Workshop within the first few months of entering Yoga practice. Note: Dropping into this class is not recommended for those with a low fitness level, hip joint replacements, spinal fusion, or significant osteoporosis. Please talk with Cheryl about other choices here for entering into your Yoga practice. Schedule and Pricing

Tai Chi Chuan: The Dance of Health
Receive expert instruction from Steve Lefkowitz. T’ai Chi Chuan is an ancient Chinese system of exercise that is gaining widespread popularity in the United States. It is a series of slow, continuous, relaxed movements that are performed with great attention. The exercise usually takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete (there is also a 3-5minute version of the exercise), and should be practiced daily in the morning and before retiring. The movements are done without strain, and provide exercise and toning for every part of the body.
The exercise is symmetrical, providing for balanced development of the body. In addition, T’ai Chi Chuan has a relaxing effect on psychological tensions, and develops concentration. Rather than a chore, T’ai Chi is a pleasurable experience, and is easily integrated as a daily means of exercise. It requires little space, and has practitioners ranging in age from 8 to 80.
